In the pen-world brimming with analogies, metaphors and similes, the human body; or as the French call it “Le Corps”; stands out as an entity of its own. Every part of our anatomy is remembered in the lofty language, while making comparisons, giving examples or imparting knowledge…
The jutting out of the “chin”…
A resolution, some stubbornness of the mind is shown by this small gesture. To tell the brain to lunge forward, to take the step which it is afraid or reluctant to take.
The looking down the “nose”…
Contempt, disdain swims in the eyes while looking at someone, understandably below the level of the nose. In order to show the utter lack of happiness, while laying eyes on the particular specimen.
The “jiggling” of the eyebrows…
Teasing, light banter between friends and close ones. To insinuate or wriggle out some funny or blush-worthy secret from a loved one. This is the ultimate show of naughtiness and chirpiness.
The flashing of the “eyes”…
This part of the body has been given the most importance by writers galore. The Eyes… They are called the mirrors to the soul, the most expressive of all senses. It’s hard to keep the eyes stable and untouched by the churning of the mind wheels. Whatever takes birth in the brain, is brought forth by the eyes….
From “blazing” in anger, to “flashing” with angst,
From “fluttering” with pleasure, to “brimming” with pain,
From “widening” with incredulity, to “shutting” down in hurt,
From “scrunching” in disgust, to “softening” in love…The eyes can say it all. Words aren’t required.
The “flailing” of the hands…
To show restlessness, anxiety, disquietude, one unconsciously starts swinging and moving hands, unmindful of the direction, style, way or propriety. The best giveaway of an anxious mind.
The “shuffling” of the feet…
Another symptom of restlessness. The need and the want to spill out something from the mouth, is shown through the inability of the feet to stay still. The back and forth of the mind is displayed in the left and right of the legs.
The “swaying” of the hips…
Coyness and the come hither stance, employed mainly by the fairer sex, but men also partake in the joy of swinging their booty. It’s a fun gesture, showing the soaring openness of the mind.
The mind is an illusionist, a “chaliya” (magician), which can capture one in it’s throes and swirl so hard in the whirlwind of emotions, that all semblance of clarity and understanding is lost. It’s hard to read what goes on in the millions of minds all over, but the senses and the body reacts the same.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson rightly says, “What you do, speaks so loud, I can’t hear what you say”
One should just know how to read the body and voila, the most intricate and complex minds can be revealed…
